I am typing this and really hoping that I can somehow manage to communicate what an awesome time we had on Friday 30th April when we go together to watch Faith Like Potatoes. I had looked at the list of attendees and I only knew one person!
I run the Film Club and have been doing so for a year, and there are more than 2 familiar faces. This time the room was full of new faces of ladies that had heard about us from a friend, from our website, from our Facebook page or from other networking sites. We had guests from Stockwell, Bromley, and East London and even as far as Rochester! It was unanimous that everyone was looking forward to a great evening and even I was blown away.
Meeting new faces, listening to different views, laughing, the wine, the popcorn, chocolate, soft drinks, cake and the movie! The movie was based on the true story of a white farmer who had to fled Zambia to South Africa with his wife and young children to start a new life in Kwa Zulu Natal, his conversion to Christianity, how he influenced his community with his faith. It tells how he chose to demonstrate his faith in God by planting potatoes in the middle one of the greatest droughts of the nation, whilst potatoes require a lot of rain to flourish. It tells the story of his family relationships, his friendships and his identity as an African.
We had a great discussion about what faith means to all of us, in every day life. There was a lot of laughter and wisdom shared, it was just another truly phenomenal JustBe Film Club evening! Come and join us at our next meeting on Friday 2nd July.
