JustBe celebrates Black History Month in October 2010 with a fundraising dinner and dance at the Riva Lounge in South East London
Our very first outing in this significant month of Black History celebrations, we joined other Black and Ethnic Monitory groups across London (or the UK, not sure) to applaud successes and raise awareness of key issues affecting our people and communities. Our focus this year was Lupus, a condition that affects predominantly women of our ethnic origin aged 15 – 44 years. We shared Sharon Brown’s story, one of the JustBe Trustees: her struggles, her pain and brave example in the face of this difficult condition.
We celebrated our history and culture with purpose, good fun, great food and fantastic music. Renowned broadcaster, Angie Greaves was on hand to draw winning tickets at the raffle draw where guests won several prizes including authentic artwork and literary prizes.
It was a truly remarkable night, graced by men and women in a stunning mix of ethnic and western fashion, having a good time in truly ambient surroundings, having a laugh, networking and making friends and acquaintances.
We ended the evening centre-stage, with elbow-room only dancing until the wee hours of the morning - all for a good cause!
A donation was made to Lupus UK.
